Before starting Evergreen some people suggested I should join a club. With a certain amount of apprehension I decided to take their advice and go along to one that was advertised in the local newspaper. It was not to my liking, so I decided to try several others and soon came to the conclusion I'm not a clubby person.
I have nothing against social clubs, they provide a valuable service for people who like them, but group activity does not suit everyone. Unfortunately society tends to categorise people. Agony aunts/uncles advice is usually to "join a club", a simple answer to

a complex problem. Most so called professional advisors seem obsessed with communal activity, as if it is the answer to everything; what they overlook is not everyone wants to be part of the wolf pack! It may work for some, but for many it could make them feel more isolated and lonelier than ever!
Following my disillusionment with clubs, I decided to try singles evenings and quickly realised it was not for me.
Advertisements within singles columns of local newspapers appear to cater for a certain type of person. I am not a snob, but my worst fears were confirmed after giving them a try.
My next idea was to join a dating agency. After much thought and a lot of apprehension I contacted a well known organisation and received lots of glossy literature, giving me the impression they use the latest technology to find a perfect partner. The initial registration fee amounted to a considerable sum of money, especially as additional payments had to be made when requesting a date. I meticulously completed their in depth questioner and forwarded it along with a cheque for the hugely inflated sum. It proved to be a costly disappointment, the service appeared to be for shallow people who care little for compatibility. After joining several other agencies I realised they were not for me. There must be many very good agencies who probably do a commendable job, but such organisations are not suitable for everyone.
I continued to think "there must be a better way". It slowly dawned on me there was virtually nothing for people who were not necessarily anti-social, but not keen on clubs, and/or those of us not keen on dating agencies.
Society has changed considerably over the past few decades. We are now more mobile and have methods of communication our grandparents never dreamt of, even so, there appears to be an incredible rise in loneliness, I believe it is a hidden epidemic! Years ago people were less mobile, families tended to live close. Compared with today, aspirations and to some extent their outlook on life was somewhat insular, finding friends/partner was much easier. Nowadays families tend to live miles apart. Although the world is a smaller place people seem to be further apart than ever before. It's hardly
surprising, regardless of age, finding suitable friends and/or a partner is now very difficult, especially for those who think and care about who they wish to meet.
After considerable planning, Evergreen was started early 1995. In a short while the response exceeded all original expectations! From there on we have
continued to grow from strength to strength. The Evergreen concept is simple, we cut our profit margin to a minimum and offer a respectable, good inexpensive service that caters for decent people that are genuine, considerate and perhaps sensitive.
